Background
The League of Multinational Corporates (LMNC) was formed in early 2018, with seven multinational companies; Ceylon Tobacco Company PLC (CTC), Baur & Co, Heineken, HSBC, Lanka IOC, Mastercard and Unilever. According to the LMNC website, it aims to promote the development of trade, commerce and investment of multinational businesses established in Sri Lanka.[1]
Tobacco Industry Affiliations
Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Ceylon Tobacco Company PLC (CTC) Michael Koest held the chairmanship of the LMNC as of 2018.
A Business Forum in September 2018
LMNC organized a business forum on 28th September 2018 at a five star hotel in Colombo (Hilton Colombo). Reportedly the theme of the forum was "Conquering the Impossible", with a key note speech from Jim Lawless who was also the author of the book “Taming Tigers”.[2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9]
According to the media reports, Minister of Youth Affairs, Project Management, Minister of Southern Development Sagala Ratnayake, Minister of Telecommunications and Digital Infrastructure Minister Harin Fernando and State Minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs Dr. Harsha de Silva attended the event. Media further reported that Prime Minister, Ranil Wickremasinghe was invited as the Chief Guest even though he did not attend the event.[6][3][7]
